Extra Prickly Pear Jam captures the fragrance and essence of Sicily. The cultivation of prickly pear, one of the island’s most traditional fruits, has Asian origins. To prepare our extra jam, we select second-flowering prickly pears, known as “bastardoni,” whose fruits are briefly cooked and then deseeded. The resulting purée is mixed with sugar, a small amount of pectin, and fresh lemon juice from the Femminello Siracusano variety. The color of the jam varies depending on the type of fruit used: deep red with the “sanguigna” variety, yellow-orange with the “sulfarina,” and white with the “muscaredda.”

   

Excellent enjoyed on toasted bread or paired with aged cheeses.

This jam is the result of a manual and artisanal process, where the delicate flavor of prickly pears is transformed into a sweetness captured in every jar. A true delight for both adults and children, it benefits not only the body but also the mood. The prickly pears, sourced from Sicilian lands, are harvested between September and November. Per 100g of product: fruit 83g, total sugars 60.83g. Production period: September to November. Main ingredients: prickly pears, sugar, pectin (thickener), Femminello Siracusano lemon juice. Shelf life & storage: 24 months – store in a cool, dry place. After opening, keep refrigerated and consume within 15 days. It can be paired with fresh or aged cheeses.
