Our Extra Red Onion Jam is an artisanal, genuine product with a unique flavor, capturing the essence of Sicily. Made with Sicilian red onions, known for their intense and fragrant aroma, this jam is crafted through a meticulous process: the onions are washed, hand-cut into small pieces, and left to macerate for 24 hours with white wine vinegar and bay leaves. After maceration, they are cooked at low temperature with the addition of sugar, lightly blended with a food processor, and fresh lemon juice from the Femminello Siracusano variety, following the traditional recipe. All without preservatives, chemical additives, or colorings. Being a natural product, the extra red onion jam may, over time and with exposure to heat, undergo a typical photo-oxidation process that slightly changes its color, without affecting its nutritional and organoleptic qualities. This jam is perfect for lovers of fine taste and Mediterranean cuisine. Ideal to pair with aged cheeses or to use as a condiment for meat- and fish-based main courses. The red onions, sourced from the lands of Siracusa, are harvested between April and September, when they reach their peak flavor and the characteristic deep red color. This product contains no PECTIN or chemical thickeners, and is therefore GLUTEN-FREE. Shelf life and storage: 24 months – Keep in a cool, dry place. After opening, store in the refrigerator and consume within 15 days. Best enjoyed as a condiment for meat- and fish-based main courses. The product is gluten-free.
